Addiction: The Issue for the Church in the Coming Decade

The effective strategy for addiction-proofing
families and individuals
Pleasanton,
California - "Addictions at their
heart, are God's gifts misused," says Dr. David Eckman of
Becoming What God Intended (BWGI)
Ministries, "and
they are propelling individuals toward inward pain, guilt, and shame
that drive the addictive cycle."
The
latest seminar from BWGI Ministries -
Addiction Proofing Your Family and Life - addresses
the painful moods that start the addictive cycle and that lead to
the many addictions present in our culture. For too long the
church has used avoidance and rules to deal with temptation,
compulsion and addiction. In contrast, this seminar empowers
individuals to manage the inner life, and therefore, manage the
gifts of God, such as food, sex and chemicals. The seminar
equips family members to become allies in the fight against
temptation, compulsion, and addiction.
Peninsula
Bible Church in Cupertino, California
recently hosted the seminar. Pastor Brian Morgan, one of the
church's pastors, said, "I expected maybe 25 people to show up,
but when over 500 came I discovered this incredible need waiting to
be exposed. And when the same people returned each Monday
night for five weeks straight, I couldn't have been more grateful.
The teaching was excellent." ...read the entire letter

The
seminar addresses the strongly tempted individuals who find
themselves enslaved to food, sex, drugs or alcohol. "Merely
overcoming addiction is not what we want," says Kevin Osborn,
the director of seminars at BWGI Ministries, "but overcoming
addictions through a rich spiritual life is the goal."
The
five-session Addiction Proofing
seminar strategically helps churches, husbands, wives and parents to
be allies in addiction proofing their homes. At the seminar
event, BWGI Ministries also provides follow-up with free n-site
counseling and supervised small groups with available study
materials.
Multnomah
School of the Bible, Campus Crusade,
and many churches have effectively used this seminar to illustrate
how the Bible addresses addiction. Many believe that addiction
is the major issue for the church in the coming decade and that BWGI
Ministries has the effective strategy for addiction-proofing families
and individuals. |
